Program Overview

The Talented and Gifted (TAG) program provides enriching learning experiences for the intellectually advanced and exceptionally creative student. Gifted services are available in all Fulton County schools for students in K-12. TAG teachers guide gifted students in ways that maximize the child’s unique learning characteristics, interests, personal needs, and capabilities during the one day a week per grade level resource program.

The Fulton County gifted program addresses the needs of gifted learners by creating an environment where gifted students can engage with intellectual peers and explore their individual strengths. The program acknowledges that no single approach can serve all gifted learners, so it incorporates a variety of instructional methods and collaborative efforts from educators and the community. Through enrichment opportunities the program provides the flexibility and depth necessary to support the growth and potential of each gifted student.

The Fulton County School System screens all students for eligibility for gifted services twice a year and uses a systematic approach to identify highly capable students who may qualify for gifted services. The TAG teacher reviews available data to refer students for further assessment. The first round of testing for students who qualify, is referred to as “automatic referral” and uses standardized test scores for initial screening, while the second round of testing in February includes teacher referrals. Students must meet the criteria set by the county in order to be tested for gifted services.

At all grade levels, the goals of the TAG program are to:

  • Develop advanced research methods and independent learning
  • Generate new ideas and products
  • Develop higher order and critical thinking skills
  • Develop advanced communication skills
